Job summary

The Senior Systems Developer will be responsible for helping to drive the continued evolution of our internal and external applications. The job will involve working with the existing system developers in producing new systems. The role will evolve as the needs of the growing business change and there will be much opportunity for making a significant impact on the daily working lives of many people.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Designing, developing and implementing new client side reporting systems. This will involve working closely with business owners to understand requirements, and to turn those requirements into working functionality.
• Collaborating on and deploying new technologies in order to achieve the primary goals.
• Providing key insights in to the design and implementation of new systems for different departments.
• Liaising with other departments to gain feedback on current systems and ideas for new ones.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Excellent programming knowledge of at least one major object oriented language (e.g. Ruby, Java, Python, C#, C++)
• Excellent knowledge of at least one major MVC web application framework (e.g. RubyOnRails, JSF, Struts, Grails, Nitro)
• Self sufficient with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Excellency in Object Oriented programming techniques
• Excellent database and data management knowledge
• Good knowledge of at least one dynamic scripting language (e.g. Perl, PHP)
• Good knowledge of HTML & JavaScript (Frameworks)
• Good knowledge of Agile methodologies (e.g. Scrum)
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a hard working team
• Ability to manage own work and meet deadlines in a fast paced and dynamic environment
• Strong desire to learn and drive the efficiency of the European business

Education and/or Experience

• Any technical or analytical based degree (e.g. Computer Science, Maths, Engineering, Economics) AND
• 3-4 years experience in a team-based Development related field, OR
• Any similar combination of education and experience – more weight given to experience rather than education.
• Ideally candidate would have been developing code for a number of years, both commercially and non-commercially, and understands the difference between computer science knowledge and real world knowledge.
